What happens at the start of a film?

At the start of the film the main characters are introduced and shown to the audience from the opening scene which always sets off the storyline and the plot. The examples I am going to use are kildulthood and Man of Steel.

The settings and locations are also established at the beginning of a film to show the audience where it was set in as well as linking back to the storyline and plot from the scenery shown at the opening scenes.

title sequence is the method by which films or television programs present their title, key production and cast members, or both, utilizing conceptual visuals and sound. It usually follows but should not be confused with the opening credits, which are generally nothing more than a series of superimposed text.

In addition normally music and sound are used at the opening scene of a film opposed to dialogue in order to establish a mood and atmospheric environment in terms of what to expect from the audiences perspective and set the forthcoming scene and plot. This also can give away the genre of the film and establish it.
