Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way. The teen social groups that have been presented in our film opening were the geek first of all. The geek was presented in a way that would have been presented anywhere else. Whilst travelling to college the geek is on the bus trying to do work on his laptop, we also wanted to include a humorous part in this teen film opening and whilst his phone rings the teen checks every pocked and comes out with different gadgets. This was done to portray how the teen of our society now is very interested into technology and want the latest out of everything that comes out. The second character of our teen film was the glamorous girl walking down to college, we presented her as very mysterious first showing her shoes which were high heels, then lipstick with over the shoulder shot and finally a tilt show to show what she was wearing. We could see the glamorous girl showing care of how she looked whilst going to college, this was a presentation of most teenage girls even now including me caring about how we look. The last character was the jogger, the jogger was in tracksuits and sporty clothes fitting his stereotypical look and listening to music with his organised stop watch. The last teen social group we presented was all of them hugging, this would be a representation of all the kids with binary oppositions ending up being good friends no matter what.

I think these characters were presented in a positive aspect as no negativity was portrayed through these characters. Instead we portrayed different stereotypes with a positive friendship and outcome.
