The Breakfast Club (Review) :

Travelling and Arriving:

The mode of transport used often helps add to the stereotype created around a particular character.
In this particular case, there are 4 main characters identified in the opening scene:

stereotypes:

  • The american' jock- the american jock is usually the most popular kid in the whole school. his status as head of the football team has made him egoistic. although he does often present himself as tough and has secrets. he wears a baseball jacket
  • The criminal -  the criminal is usually lonely and docent socialise well with other students. he often quite rebellious and docent get along with teachers.
  • the princess- she is usually a 'daddy girl' and gets everything she wants. however she is not portrayed to book smart and is often screened to be putting on make-up.
  • the brains - this is the geek who loves science and is bullied by the jock and members of the foot ball team.

In “The Breakfast Club,” as everybody arrives at school for detention after getting ripped new ones from their parents, they all sit at different desks in the library, typical clique behaviour. In every teen movie there are stereotypes- this is because they act as exaggerated behaviours that occur during a school semester.

stereotypes of arrival:
The criminal walks to school- this shows that he has no money and has a low social class status.
The daddys girl- arrives to school in a brand new BMW. this shows that she is from a middle class background
The jock- arrives to school in an old SUV CAR. This shows that he is from a working class background.
The brains- arrives in an old SUV family car with his mum and little sister.
