We see the first character in the film a young female and her father sitting in a BMW. This indicates that her family is well off and powerful. This is then proven when the girl almost disbelievingly says to her father that she can't believe he can't get her out. This suggests that she is used to having her own way.
The next character we are introduced to is a young male accompanied by his mother and his little brother. His mother is in complete contrast to the father we see earlier. Here she makes sure to admonish her son and tells him to find a way to study.
The final character we see is the jock. He is with his father in the SUV and his father also tells him that he also used to screw around as a kid but how he didn't get caught. Then the conversation turns more serious and the son is told in no uncertain terms to get his act together and that you can't get scholarships with disciplinary records. We see that this is the working class family as they arrive in the SUV and are worried about scholarships.
