Researching Music and Sound for your Own Film Opening

Copyright gives the creator of music, a film, a book etc legal rights to control who uses the product and how it is distributed. This is to ensure the creator/artist will get paid.

There are 3 reasons why the exam board don't want you to use copyright sound:

  • They don't want you breaking the law when producing your coursework
  • They want you to be awarded more marks
  • If you show that you are layering sound, you will achieve high marks for your use of sound in your production

Using a clip with no sound for learning purposes, I used creative commons and copyright free sound files from sound sources folder to put into the clip using final cut pro. I started by researching sound on creative commons as well as using copyright free sound from youtube to match the scenes in the clip which were best suited and which you would normally expect to hear. This experience was very pleasant and another learning curve for me to implement these skills in the foreseeable future.
